BOOKS IN BLOOM: Using Puppets, Props and Pizzazz to Bring Your Storytimes to Life and Build Students’ Literacy Skills

As children enter our libraries and classrooms from a multi-media world, we have new challenges in helping them grasp important literacy fundamentals. Collectively fostering these skills and instilling a love of literature requires creativity, quality, and pizzazz. This workshop showcases ideas for creative methods of integrating early literacy concepts into weekly storytimes or daily lessons. Suggestions for sharing children’s literature in alternative ways are also demonstrated. Both simple and complex presentation ideas are included, as well as an overview of rudimentary puppetry techniques.
